Materials Used and Maintenance Advice
The timber used is Scandinavian Redwood. We take conservation and the protection of the environment very seriously; therefore all our products are manufactured with wood supplied from managed sustainable FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified forests.
We want you to get the most from your new resources, so looking after the resources correctly is very important. Your resources have received two coats of a wood protection. This protection has an excellent penetrating and dispersing action that gives an even coverage and is non-hazardous to children, animals and is harmless to plants, neither will it blister or peel as some products do.
This treatment is adequate for the first 12 months of the resources life (if outside), indoors will last longer). After this time we recommend you treat the resources yourself with a good quality wood treatment making sure that the resources are completely clean and dry before any treatment is applied, then ensure it is completely dry before the children are allowed to use it once again.
Varnish and creosote are not recommended as the resources will be used by children. Clear treatments are also not recommended as they lack pigment (colorant) which protects the resources from UV rays which will result in the deterioration of colour.
We also recommend that you use blackboard paint to maintain your chalkboards, at least once every 12 months. This will also help to reseal the board and help longevity.
Wood is a natural product and may expand and retract according to weather conditions therefore we cannot be held responsible for cracking, splitting, warping and shrinkage as this is a natural occurrence in all types of timber. Because of these occurrences it may be necessary to periodically check the tightness of the nuts, bolts and screws and tighten if necessary (do not over tighten). Resin/sap is occasionally present in the timber and is of no detriment to the resources. Should this appear then wipe with white spirit.
It goes without saying (but I have to put it in here), all equipment purchased from us should be on solid, flat ground to prevent it from tipping over and children need to be supervised at all times whilst equipment is in use.
All that is left for me to say is, enjoy! We would love to see some photos (with permission of course), of the children playing with their fabulous new resource and if we could use them in our marketing that would be amazing (and we will of course mention the nursery).
Thank you
Alex and Nick
